- Sizing the gap : meeting Indigenous housing needs. AHURI Webinar, 13 March 2025
One in eight Indigenous households across Australia have unmet housing needs, which is twice the rate of all Australian households, according to new AHURI research.
What practical solutions could help 'Close the Gap' for Indigenous households living in severely crowded, inadequate or unaffordable housing?
Taking place in the lead up to Closing the Gap Day 2025, this webinar will unpack new AHURI research which marks the first comprehensive review of First Nations housing governance, resources and regulation in Australia. Providing an up-to-date assessment of unmet Indigenous housing needs, discussion will explore what Indigenous housing policies are needed to support people in all housing situations, and why ‘Closing the Gap’ relies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people having access to appropriate and affordable housing that is aligned with their needs.
Lead researcher, Associate Professor Megan Moskos, University of Adelaide will discuss the key findings of the research with Famey Williams, CEO Aboriginal Housing Office NSW, facilitated by Dr Rachel Trigg, AHURI Head of Research.
Who should attend: Anyone shaping or implementing policy relating to Indigenous housing and perspectives, or anyone impacted by, or wishing to see change to Indigenous and social housing decisions in Australia.
