Submission to caring for older Australians : Productivity Commission /

by Brotherhood of St Laurence.

Publisher: Fitzroy, Vic. Brotherhood of St Laurence 2010Description: PDF.Other title: BSL submission to caring for older Australians.Online Access: Electronic copy Notes: July 2010 Living longer. Living better (DH&A)Summary: At a time when the rights of older people in Australia are often undermined by social stereotypes that equate ageing with deficit and by well-intentioned social and care services that, in a risk-averse environment, often curtail independence and choice, a stepping off point for this submission is a vision of aged care as an investment in which Government sees its role as investing in those capabilities that older Australians need to develop or maintain for full inclusion in Australian society. As our population ages, Australia faces increased aged care costs. We need to learn from the experience of other developed countries in designing policy to address this issue. The foundation of aged care policy needs to shift from addressing ageing as a deficit and focus instead on people?s capabilities. This will effectively shift the ground from a dependency model to a model where older people as adults exercise their full complement of choices and rights.Availability: (1)

Submission to ACMA's reconnecting the customer consultation /

by Brody, Gerard | Brotherhood of St Laurence.

Publisher: Fitzroy, Vic. Brotherhood of St Laurence 2010Description: PDF.Online Access: Electronic copy Notes: September 2010Summary: In its submission to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), the Brotherhood of St Laurence highlights some of its major concerns regarding the systemic causes of dissatisfaction ; in the telecommunications industry, especially the problems faced by disadvantaged and vulnerable ; people, and how it believes they can be strategically addressed in the converging communications ; environment. While we are aware that the review is ostensibly about complaints and best practice ; in complaints handling, the Brotherhood believes that it would be more beneficial to address the ; causes of complaints rather than how complaints are handled.Availability: (1)
