"Can you please help me? how can we live?" : UnitingCare's emergency relief and crisis support for asylum seekers living in the community /

by Gruhn, Robert | UnitingCare Victoria and Tasmania.

Publisher: Melbourne, Vic. UnitingCare Victoria and Tasmania 2014Description: PDF.Online Access: Electronic copy Notes: March 2014 Bibliography : p. 59-61Summary: Asylum seekers have been identified over the last years as a major group at serious risk of disadvantage, isolation and marginalisation leading to deprivation, poverty and a lack of social integration.1 This research report provides a summary of the emergency relief (ER) services and other related support to asylum seekers living in the community provided by UnitingCare Victoria and Tasmania (UCVT) agencies. It is based on an initial scoping of UCVT sites operating in metropolitan Melbourne, as well as one regional agency. Research was largely based on semi-structured interviews, mainly with ER agency staff, case studies and service user stories provided by agencies. This report also includes some aggregated statistics and figures provided by participating agencies - where data was available specific to this user group. ; The fast changing policy and operational environment meant that completing parts of this research project and analysis proved challenging. The analysis of the policy context and background was therefore undertaken after the completion of primary research.Availability: (1)
