Regional growth and affordable housing. /

by Howe, Brian | Jope, Sally.

Publisher: 2006Description: 32 p. PDF.Online Access: DOWNLOAD PDF Notes: The Hon Brian Howe, Dunstan Fellow 2005-6 Sally Jope, Brotherhood of St LaurenceSummary: There is a need for some targeted interventions in the development of regions and their housing markets to ensure instances of growth are converted into sustainable development. In a series of roundtable discussions held in areas of regional growth we found: • It was more difficult to access affordable housing and prices were forced up by increased demand for housing and competition over land with institutional investors. • No evidence to suggest that the supply of housing had been considered when growth had been proposed, other than the supply of short-term, temporary housing in one instance. • Low-income households being pushed further to the margins and facing transport related barriers to employment, services and facilities. Some were being pushed to low or no growth regions. Availability: Items available for loan: Brotherhood of St Laurence (1).
