"It is like they just don't trust us" : balancing trust and control in the provision of disability employment services / by Nevile, Ann | Brotherhood of St Laurence | Lohmann, Rosemary. Crawford School of Economics and Government 2011Description: xi, 80 p.Online Access: Electronic copy Notes: June 2011 The research underlying this report was supported by an Australian Research Council Linkage Grant. Jobs Australia, ACE National and the Brotherhood of St Laurence were Industry Partners in this research and provided both financial and practical support. INTO AND OUT OF WORK SCHOOL TO WORKSummary: This research project provides an independent mid-term review of the new contracting arrangements introduced on 1 March 2010. In doing so, it takes up the question as to whether closer alignment to the funding arrangements used in mainstream employment services where design principles broadly derive from agency theory, allows disability employment service providers to meet the government?s goal of ?effective?tailored services that are flexible and responsive? "Lucky St George" or "Knowing what it is" : Christianity and the current crisis / The Nineth G.T. Sambell Memorial Oration delivered by Dr Veronica Brady by Brady, Veronica | Brotherhood of St Laurence. Publisher: Fitzroy, vic G.T. Sambell Memorial Trust 1989Description: 12 p. PDF.Other title: Lucky St George or Knowing what it is : Christianity and the current crisis.Online Access: DOWNLOAD PDF Notes: "Occasional Paper - Companions of St Laurence - 1989" - Front cover
Delivered on 3rd December, 1989 at the 59th Foundation Festival of the Brotherhood of St LaurenceSummary: I wrote this lecture during the pilots’ strike and wrote it in Western Australia which was at that time a State of crisis as charge and counter-charge flew and every day brought some yet more extraordinary revelation of relations between Government and business. To say this, however, is not mere anecdote, a way of beginning. Rather, it is our beginning. It poses our question and defines our task. For the crisis issue is not just West Australian, it is Australian and perhaps also, more generally, Western. But our concern is at the moment with Australia. Mindful of one of Blake’s wisest sayings, “to generalise is to be an idiot”, let us focus, however, on a very specific issue: the fate of that Christian commitment to justice which was exemplified in Geoffrey Sambell whom we honour this evening.Availability: Items available for loan: Brotherhood of St Laurence (2).

"Outside looking in" : the public image of ARC / by Palmer, David | Action and Resource Centre. Publisher: Fitzroy, Vic. ARC 1980Description: 41 p.Online Access: Electronic copy Notes: ARC started in 1972 at the Brotherhood of St Laurence as The Family Centre Project. Action and Resource Centre (ARC) for low-income families opened in 1972 on a self-management basis, taking over from the Family Centre and continuing the Family Centre Project philosophy - 'low-income people need a voice and an organisation where they can help other low income people'. With 95 member families, fifteen members of the Family Centre were employed as resource workers. The ARC's Support Work Program (SWOP) provided employment for men who had been out of work for some time. The formal agreement between the BSL and the Action & Resource Centre was signed on 28 July 1976, the first step towards autonomy for the project.(BSL timeline)Availability: Items available for reference: BSL Archives (1).
