by Holdsworth, Roger | Lake, Murray | Stacey, Kathleen.

Publisher: Canberra, A.C.T. Australia. Department of Family and Community Services and Indigenous Affairs 2005Description: PDF.Online Access: Electronic copy Notes: June 2005 A report of a three year longitudinal study carried out by the Australian Youth Research Centre for the Australian Government Youth Bureau, Department of Family and Community Services.Summary: This three-year longitudinal study followed young people in 18 state-sponsored 'youth development programs' in South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia. These programs occur in or in association with schools and involve community providers (such as the Royal Australian Air Force, State Emergency Service and Scouts Australia). The researchers gathered anecdotal evidence about changes in behaviours and attitudes of young people participating in such activities. They noted that while improvements were reported in areas such as skills, knowledge and confidence, there were considerable differences between what young people expected from the programs and what they experienced. Their findings lead to a series of policy and program suggestions.Availability: (1)
