Work : an Aboriginal perspective / The twelfth Sambell Memorial Oration delivered by Ms Lilian Holt Principal, Aboriginal Community College, Adelaide

by Holt, Lillian.

Publisher: Fitzroy, Vic. G.T. Sambell Memorial Trust 1993Description: 9 p. PDF.Online Access: DOWNLOAD PDF Notes: "Occasional Paper - Companions of St Laurence - 1993" - Front cover Delivered on 10th August 1993 at the Auditorium, Clunies Ross House, Parkville Summary: My directive to speak on employment, unemployment and work from an Aboriginal perspective is somewhat daunting, in the sense that it is not a clear, clinical topic which you can deal with in isolation. Aboriginal issues; whether they be health, education or employment, are never clear cut, nor can they be dealt with in isolation. The historical legacies of the past determine the present, and we can no longer pretend that they, too, exist in isolation. The present status of Aboriginal people in whatever area is therefore about certain fundamental attitudes and actions in the arena of race relations for the past two hundred years. Those attitudes and actions are sometimes neither pretty nor palatable, and we need not dwell on them. However, neither should we deny them.
