Does ' Work for the Dole' work? /

by Borland, Jeff | University of Melbourne. Melbourne Institute of Applied conomic and Social Research | Tseng, Yi-Ping.

Publisher: [Parkville, Vic.] Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research 2004Description: 38 p. : ill.Online Access: Electronic copy Notes: July 2004 Includes bibliographical references.Summary: This study examines the effect of Australia s Work for the Dole program in helping people move out of unemployment. Using a matching method to compare a group of WfD participants in 1997 98 with other young unemployed counterparts who did not undertake WfD, the researchers found that Work for the Dole seemed to have an adverse effect, perhaps discouraging participants from searching for a real job, or creating a stigma which deterred potential employers.Availability: (1)
