Justice for Asylum Seekers (JAS) [was] an alliance of over 25 national church and community organisations, founded in Melbourne in 1999 to address negative perceptions of refugees claiming asylum. JAS [was] concerned with achieving just treatment of people claiming asylum in Australia while acknowledging the need for border management and sound migration processes. This report builds on the JAS June 2002 proposal "Alternative approaches to asylum seekers: reception and Tranitional processing system."
