Australia is a developed country with social welfare policies and programmes designed to support the most disadvantaged within our community. Yet, at our Salvation Army service centres, we are seeing the need deepen and the level of disadvantage increase ? in our provision of crisis and transitional accommodation to people who are homeless; in our provision of food vouchers and assistance paying bills to people experiencing serious fi nancial hardship; and in our provision of support to more than 12,000 young people each year who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless and have no family support networks to rely on. Across the board, the need is increasing.
