The Australian Affiliation of Voluntary Care Associations Incorporated was established in 1975 in response to the then Minister for Social Security, the Honorable Bill Hayden, seeking to negotiate with a single point of contact and unified voice for not-for-profit providers of aged care services in Australia. In October, 1991 the Association's name was changed to Aged Care Australia Incorporated and on 4 September 1999 the Association's name was changed to Aged and Community Services Australia to reflect the broader services provided by members. State Associations work with each other as well as with the ACSA National Board.
